There are a lot of DJ services out there. Why should I choose SEISMIC SOUND?
- We specialize in pre-event consultation with you, so that we’re ultra-planned and you’re 100% comfortable before your event and we still always actively prepare to handle surprises on event day. As we’re known for saying, “Our backup plans have backup plans.”
- We DJ and MC professionally at all times and we surpass other DJ services by helping to coordinate all key people and moments during your event for a seamless flow.
- We’ve got decades of experience and have collectively DJed thousands of events and we still love what we do and get excited about every event.
- We’ve got the same tried-and-true favorites every other DJ has and we have a truly enormous music library that’s actively updated with everything from rare songs from the 1920s to brand new hit singles just released this week (including album cuts and clean versions).
- We’re great at choosing, playing and mixing music and we know how to read and play to each unique mix of people in a way that keeps engagement and energy high from start to finish.
Do you provide anything besides music and sound (lighting, props, etc.)?
Do you accept MUST-PLAY and DO-NOT-PLAY song lists?
We do.
However, please carefully read what follows, so that your event can be everything you really hope it will be.
Music forms emotional connections. It’s a wonderful mystery. But not every song that has a personal emotional connection for you will hold that same personal emotional connection for others.
Sometimes, it makes sense to play songs that have personal meaning. For instance, the first dance at a wedding is just for the wedding couple, and that song can be deeply personal.
However, the larger the MUST-PLAY list becomes, the less freedom you allow a professional DJ to read the room and play songs that will keep your guests engaged. In this way, playing only your favorite songs—may leave a dance floor empty and your guests leaving early.
As for DO-NOT-PLAY lists, it is usually better to think in terms of general principles. We keep fully stocked with radio-edits (i.e., “clean versions”) of hit songs, which you can request that we pull from. Just be aware that any one individual’s ideas about what is appropriate may not match the ideas of others (including radio playlist regulators and DJs). If you have very restrictive rules about what is acceptable music, we may invite you to provide the full playlist for the event, with the understanding that we would be playing to your tastes, which may result in varying levels of engagement from your guests.
Does your library have music appropriate for events geared toward children and young teens?
Yes. We DJ lots of events for younger listeners, and we keep fully stocked with radio-edits (i.e., “clean versions”) of hit songs, which you can request that we pull from.
Just be aware that one person’s ideas about what is appropriate may not match the ideas of others (including radio playlist regulators and DJs).
Also keep in mind that, if a song starts and kids get excited or swarm to the dance floor—it means they’ve already heard the song and have likely memorized every word of it, long before the event. If you are the administrator or event planner for an event geared toward a younger audience, that means that you (and the DJ) are not responsible for having somehow exposed kids to questionable new ideas. Free yourself from that pressure.
That said, we always use professional judgment. And we will do our best to make sure that the kids have a great time—while the adults don’t have to sweat it.
Where are you located?

How does your pre-event consultation and planning work?
First, you’ll be happy to know—it’s free.
And it’s entirely up to you whether you’d like to meet with your DJ in person, to plan over the phone or through email, to use our personal planning tool, or to combine methods. Whatever fits your schedule and preferences.

Can your sound system handle large spaces?
What forms of payment do you accept?
Do I need to leave a deposit?
We DJ a lot of events, so we have to be strategic and highly efficient in scheduling our DJs.
A deposit lets us know that you are serious about booking your event. Each event, then, is considered officially booked after a contract is signed and a deposit is placed.*
The deposit amount will be 20% of the total event cost, rounded to the nearest $100.
* Approved schools may have the deposit amount waived. Please ask us about this.
Do I pay you before, during or after the event?
A deposit of 20% of the total event cost is due at contract signing, in order to officially book your event. The remaining balance is due before the start of the event (or, if pre-approved, at the event itself).*
The deposit amount will be 20% of the total event cost, rounded to the nearest $100.
* Approved schools, universities and corporations may be invited to pay by check after the event. Please ask us about this.
Should I tip my DJ?
It’s customary to tip your DJ for excellent service.
SEISMIC SOUND DJs always deliver excellence. However, we leave the tipping entirely up to you. Our DJs will never ask you for a tip or in any way imply that you “owe” one.
If you do choose to tip, you can use the following methods:
- A cash tip handed to your DJ in person at the end of the event
- Venmo | Cash App | Apple Pay [varies by DJ]
What happens if I have to cancel my event?
We have an extremely generous cancelation policy.
Just cancel at least seven days prior to your event, and we will hold your deposit to apply toward a rescheduled event, as long as the rescheduled date falls within one calendar year of the original event date (and depending on DJ availability for your rescheduled event date).
We are not able to refund deposits for any event canceled less than seven days before the event date.
